    This is an exhaustive and fresh look at the life and death of Grigorii Rasputin and the effect it had on Russia at the end of the reign of Nicholas II It must have taken the author ages to write this The amount of cross checking of diaries, memoirs, archive documents and primary source documents is exhausting to even look at most of these are Russian language sources, some translated here for the first time The author has approached this story with fresh eyes and the conclusions reached are based on evidence, not simply period gossip and the final result is markedly different from what you ll find in other books on Rasputin This book will become essential reading for anyone who wants to know about Rasputin in the future, though I suspect the man we find here is not one some people will want...

    In history, much like in anything else, there are at least 2 sides to the story In this book we see a whole different side of the familiar story we have come to know as fact, the familiar story of the last days of Russia just before the revolution broke out This book is not an easy read by any means It took me about 3 months to finish, because I felt like I needed to concentrate on the facts that were presented, without the usual distractions, in order to fully understand and appreciate them And there is certainly a LOT of new information to digest, a lot of new sources that have never been presented before, some very startling This is a very different look at the last Russian Emperor Nicholas II, specifically during the twilight of his rule This book is not just about Rasputin and his murder, it is a comprehensive study from completely different angle of the familiar events we have come to accept as historical truths It can also be viewed as a form of rehabilitation of the last Tsar s reputation, based on thorough examination of definitive primary sources that have never been considered before It has been very easy for us to condemn Nicholas II in historical hindsight 20 20, but stepping back in history and into his shoes and seeing the events a...
